Dubai for Founders

Why entrepreneurs move to Dubai, what to set up first, and how the city's founder communities fit together. Facts as of October 2026.

Updated

Dubai for founders means three things at once: a tax and residence framework built to attract business owners, a banking and structuring system that rewards preparation, and a dense network of entrepreneur communities, from business clubs to peer forums and investor groups. This page explains each part as of October 2026, maps the communities, and shows where Insiders Capital fits.

Disclosure: we are the team behind Insiders Capital, a Dubai-based private membership for entrepreneurs and investors. Insiders Capital does not manage assets and does not give regulated investment, legal or tax advice. Nothing here replaces a qualified advisor who knows your situation.

Why founders choose Dubai

Most founders who move here name the same four reasons.

Tax framework

As of October 2026, the UAE government portal states that the UAE does not levy income tax on individuals. It applies a 5% value added tax on goods and services, and a federal corporate tax for financial years starting on or after 1 June 2023: 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above it, according to u.ae. The Federal Tax Authority explains that individuals can fall under corporate tax when they run a business in the UAE above a turnover threshold, while salary, personal investment income and real estate investment income are outside its scope (tax.gov.ae).

What this does not mean: moving to Dubai does not end your tax obligations elsewhere. Your home country may still tax you, depending on residence rules, exit taxes and treaties. Get advice in both countries before you move.

Residence

A UAE residence visa is usually tied to an employer or to your own company. Long-term options also exist. The UAE Golden Visa, as described on u.ae as of October 2026, offers renewable long-term residence without a local sponsor, with categories for investors and for entrepreneurs, and lets holders sponsor family members. Each category has its own published conditions. We cover them in the UAE Golden Visa for entrepreneurs.

Banking

Opening personal and business accounts is often the slowest step. Banks ask for a clear source of funds, a business plan or trading history, and proof of substance in the UAE. Refusals are common when files are incomplete. Our guide to banking in Dubai for entrepreneurs lists what to prepare.

Structuring

Founders choose between a mainland company and one of the many free zones, and some add a holding company or a foundation on top. Common setups are compared in holding companies in Dubai for founders and DIFC vs ADGM foundations. For families with significant assets, see single vs multi-family offices in Dubai. A wider checklist is in wealth structuring for entrepreneurs in Dubai.

Your first 90 days

The order matters more than the speed. A simple sequence:

  1. Before you land: get tax advice in your current country, decide on the company setup, gather documents for banks (corporate records, source of funds, references).
  2. First month: company license, residence visa, Emirates ID, a place to live.
  3. Second month: personal and business bank accounts, insurance, local service providers.
  4. Third month: build your network deliberately instead of saying yes to every event.

The full checklist is in moving to Dubai as an entrepreneur: the first 90 days.

Map of the entrepreneur ecosystem

Dubai has no single "founder community". It has several types of organizations, each built around a different promise. Choose the type before you choose a name.

Each organization publishes its own criteria, and most do not publish fees. Detailed comparisons:

How to build your network here

  • Start with one serious group, not ten events. Repeated contact with the same people builds trust faster than volume.
  • Check vetting. Ask how members are screened. The quality of the room is the product.
  • Prefer confidentiality. Founders share real numbers only where there is an NDA or a forum code.
  • Mix formats over time. A peer forum for your company, a wealth-focused group for your personal balance sheet, a clubhouse if you host often.

Where Insiders Capital fits

Insiders Capital is a Dubai-based private membership for entrepreneurs, business owners and investors, founded by Arthur Thomson. It is not a clubhouse and not a peer forum for company operations. Its focus is what happens after the business makes money. As of October 2026, it is organized in four pillars:

  • Capital: investment education, a live view of the founder's own portfolio and theses, a net worth tracker and deal flow.
  • Network: a vetted peer group under NDA, with private Telegram groups, quarterly masterminds, weekly in-person events, trips and retreats.
  • Concierge: introductions for expat setup, banking, corporate structuring, trusts, tax and legal work. See the Concierge page.
  • Properties: real estate opportunities sourced, verified and executed with the community. See the Properties page.

Membership is by application, reviewed personally by the founder, and pricing is shared during the application review. The offer page lists what is included, and the About page explains what Insiders is and is not. Insiders does not manage assets: members keep control of their own capital and decide for themselves.

Next step

If you are moving to Dubai, or already here, and want a peer group focused on turning business income into lasting wealth, you can apply to Insiders Capital. Applying is free and takes about 3 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubai a good place for entrepreneurs?

For many founders, yes: as of October 2026 the UAE does not levy personal income tax, offers long-term residence options and has a dense business network. It also means real setup work (company, visa, banking) and tax planning in your home country. It is a fit when the move serves your business and your life, not only your tax bill.

What is the best entrepreneur network in Dubai?

There is no single best one. Business clubs suit people who host meetings, peer forums such as EO and YPO suit company leaders who meet their criteria, investor groups suit people managing significant personal wealth, and wealth-focused memberships such as Insiders Capital suit founders who want a plan for their income. See the ecosystem map above.

Can I get a Golden Visa as an entrepreneur?

As of October 2026, the UAE Golden Visa has a dedicated category for entrepreneurs, with conditions published on the government portal u.ae. Read the UAE Golden Visa for entrepreneurs and confirm your case with the authorities or a licensed advisor.

Does Insiders Capital help with moving to Dubai?

Yes, through introductions. The Concierge pillar connects members with partners for expat setup, banking, structuring, tax and legal work. Insiders Capital does not give regulated legal or tax advice itself. See the Concierge page.

Not financial advice. This page reflects publicly available information as of October 2026. Tax, visa and banking rules change: confirm them with the relevant authorities and qualified professionals before making financial, legal or tax decisions. Investing involves risk, including the loss of capital.
